Сколько бы вы ни учили английский, рано или поздно натыкаетесь на фразу, которая при дословном переводе звучит как полный абсурд.

"To kick the bucket" — пинать ведро? Звучит как странное хобби. На деле — «сыграть в ящик», «отбросить коньки». Или "spill the beans" — рассыпать бобы. Это про уборку? Нет. Это «выдать секрет», «разболтать тайну».

Перед вами не ошибки и не причуды. Это живые метафоры, которые показывают: язык — не про заучивание правил. Люди веками переносили значения слов, играли с образами, создавали новые смыслы. И сегодня носители используют эти фразы на автомате, не задумываясь. А нас в школе учили по-другому: таблицы, упражнения, перевод каждого слова. В итоге мы пытаемся собрать фразу по правилам, как стеллаж по инструкции.

Это и есть главная проблема. Мы учим язык как предмет. А надо — тренировать навык.
